HURRICANE GUSTAV

Well, we were hoping that Gustav would change course and go somewhere else but it looks like he is determined to visit southwest Louisiana.  In fact, the storm is heading straight for us.  We have begun our preparations.  We are keeping the car full of gas (although it is increasingly difficult to find gas stations that have gas) and I went shopping last night and got food and water.  Duane was up early this morning getting bagged ice for the ice chest so we can be prepared when the electricity goes out.  I am soooo dreading going without air-conditioning for any length of time in 95 degree weather and high humidity.  Oh well, I've certainly done it before as this is probably my 6th or 7th time riding out a major hurricane since I was a child.  Please pray for our safety as we are particularly concerned with tornadoes associated with the hurricane.  We contemplated just going on a family vacations somewhere for a week but the only place we would want to go is Disney World and Orlando is expecting rain all next week.  The kids will probably be out of school most if not all of next week.  Like I said...please pray for us!

EXPIRED TWINKIES

Would you eat an expired Twinkie???  Under normal circumstances I wouldn't even eat a fresh Twinkie (hard to believe, I know) but Duane has been in Houston this week and I have had these kids non-stop so I was stuck in the house last night and desperate for something sweet so I ate an expired Twinkie.  The cake part was stale but the cream was delicious.  I was actually shocked that the cake part was stale considering all the crap that goes into one of those things to keep it fresh.  If you've got Twinkies in your food storage I highly recommend that you rotate them.

KAITLYN IS 5!!!

My niece Kaitlyn had her 5th birthday at Kart Ranch on Saturday.  We had not been there since Andrew took off running down the Youngsville highway at his party back in May.  We managed to keep track of him this time and everyone had a great time enjoying pizza, cookie cake, goodie bags, and games.  I have posted a few pics.

CUPCAKE REVIEW

Since I am such an avid cupcake fan I thought I would put my cupcake tasting skills to good use and start reviewing cupcakes around Lafayette/Acadiana.  It's a dirty job but somebody's got to do it...well I guess somebody doesn't HAVE to do it but I want to so here goes.  Today I was craving cupcakes so badly(it has been cupcake week on Martha Stewart and I just couldn't take it anymore) that I decided to make a stop at Southside Bakery since it wasn't too far from the kids' school.  It also made me feel like I was getting the cupcakes for the kids and not for myself.  Since Southside is known for elaborate (and expensive!!) cakes and pastries I was bracing myself for cupcakes that were extraordinary pieces of art with a huge price tag.  With debit card in hand, I was prepared to pay as much as $10 for 4 cupcakes.  I take my new self-appointed job VERY seriously and spare no expense.  As I approached the glass counter I was filled with excitement and my eyes frantically searched for the ginormous cupcakes I had envisioned.  Sadly, I found them and they were tiny little things that were what can best be described as "Plain Janes."  With only two flavors to choose from I made the task simple and got two vanilla with white frosting and two chocolate with chocolate frosting, each decorated with tiny multi-colored sprinkles.  The guy packed them up and I paid for them.  Only $3.85 so at least they weren't expensive.  I was thinking that they were probably extra yummy and didn't need any elaborate trimmings.  When I got in the van I promptly pulled one out and sunk my chops into a chocolate one.  Devastating disappointment!!  The flavor was extremely nice but they tasted like they had just been pulled out of the freezer.  There is nothing worse than a cold cupcake.  It made the texture feel dry and the frosting was smooth and creamy but not soft.  Who in their right mind would sell a cupcake that was not room temperature?? Out of a potential 5 stars Southside Bakery gets 2 stars for presentation and 2 stars for taste for an average of 2 stars.  If the cupcake wouldn't have been cold it probably would have gotten 3 stars. I hope to take a picture of the cupcake next time. The one I posted is not from Southside but it looks a lot like the chocolate one. This is fun!  Where should I get my next cupcake??

O HAPPY DAY!!!!

Hurray! Yippee! Oh Boy! Woo Hoo! Hallelujah! SCHOOL HAS STARTED!!!! Sophie and Andrew are back in school and I am now free as a bird!  Can you tell I am slightly excited???  It's just me and Lillianne from 8am to 3pm and I can take a nap with her or go to lunch or go shopping...just so many possibilities.  I do love my little 'roo but I can't do much when he is out of school.  I have been cooped up in this house for 11 weeks and now I get to go out whenever I want.  Very nice!  Anyone up for lunch??  Oh yeah, I posted first day of school pics, too.  I just love, love, love school uniforms.  So easy!

LIZZY TIZZY DIVAS

Sophie had a fun day on Wednesday with her cousin Gracie.  They went to Lizzy Tizzy and had makeovers.  Sophie chose to be a ballerina and Gracie chose to be a rock star.  For as long as I can remember Gracie has loved dressing up like a rock star.  When she was 4 years old I made her a  rock star outfit for my Mom to give her as a Christmas present.  It was a silver sequined halter top with gold fringe and silver lame' bell bottom pants with gold fringe.  Very sassy.  I was so excited at Christmas when she got so many fabulous gifts but she tossed them all aside when she saw the rock star outfit.  I wish I had a picture of her in it.  She is a super sweet girl and Sophie loves playing with her and they make a really cute pair!
